Recently, nearly 50 staff members from Experian visited the Dignity for Children Foundation to see firsthand how corporate social responsibility can make a real difference in the lives of underprivileged children. The day was filled with insightful experiences and opportunities for learning and connection.
Introduction to Dignity
The visit began with a heartfelt talk from our founder, Pastor Elisha Satvinder. He shared the origins and values of the Dignity for Children Foundation, giving an overview of our mission of child empowerment and poverty alleviation. Following the talk, the Experian team embarked on a guided tour of our campus. They explored our classrooms, learned about our enterprises, and witnessed the welfare services we provide.
Hands on learning: workshops and skill-building
The highlight of the day came when each group ended their tour at their workshop of choice – a two-hour introductory lesson on baking, painting, sewing and woodworking. These workshops were led by our skilled STEP (Skills Training and Employability Program) trainers, who typically teach our STEP students. For the Experian staff, it was a refreshing break from their usual routines that offered a unique opportunity to learn new skills. The workshops also served as a fantastic team-building exercise, with colleagues supporting each other and strengthening their bonds.
Our STEP students played a crucial role in the day's success. They assisted the corporate staff during the workshops, showcasing the confidence and skills they’ve gained through our programs. It was inspiring to see how these students, empowered through our education initiatives, can now guide and support others, demonstrating how we break the cycle of poverty through education.
The experience concluded with a visit to Shop X Dignity, where the intricately crafted items made by our students and trainers were on display. The Experian team made purchases that directly supported our youth development programs, taking home beautiful handcrafted items as mementos of their visit. To top off the day, the Experian staff enjoyed a meal at our café enterprise, Eat X! They savored delicious dishes and a refreshing passion fruit spritzer, all prepared by our students.
The day was a testament to the power of corporate social responsibility in making a tangible impact. For Experian, it was a day of learning, bonding, and contributing to a meaningful cause. For our STEP students, it was a chance to shine and showcase their skills and growth.
